Jules’ Undersea Lodge off Key Largo, Florida
While you’re waiting for Hydropolis to open in Dubai, you can visit Jules’ Undersea Lodge, in Key Largo, Florida NOW. The lodge is located at the Emerald Lagoon, in Key Largo, Florida. It is a former research lab for marine biologists, where it was used off the coast of Puerto Rico. Guests must scuba dive 21 feet under the surface to enter the hotel. Instructors are available to teach those who don’t know how to scuba dive.
The hotel can accommodate six guests, and costs $475 a night (as of July, 2008). Rooms are air conditioned. Each room has cozy beds, and a 42-inch picture window into the underwater tropical mangrove habitat; as well as a private bedroom and sink. The lodge is filled with compressed air, and hot showers are available. A cable delivers fresh air, water, power, and communication. There are two private bedrooms for couples. For family groups, two additional guests can sleep in the living room. A common area room contains a very small kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is well-stocked and contains a microwave.
Entertainment facilities consist of books, music, a TV with VCR and DVD, and movies; a marine radio, fish to watch, and unlimited scuba diving for those with a scuba license. There is also a working telephone and intercom.
Many famous people have stayed here–among them being former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau; rock stars Steve Tyler of “Aerosmith;” and Jon Fishman of “Phish.”
